Wherever you go. There you are.

This picture was taken when I lived in Los Angeles. I had just joined Sweet Home Alabama which was (is) a Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Band. Over the course of my time with them we played biker bars, various clubs, to moving the band out to Las Vegas. My buddy Jeff has always been the driving force and has become quite successful with it even after my departure from the band.

In a way I am reminiscing but at the same time I’m reminded of all of the different hats we wear throughout our lives. I’ve personally worn so many that my family has given up trying to label me.

There has been one running theme throughout my hat collection. I am always thriving to better myself. I am always pushing the limit no matter how uncomfortable it gets. Sometimes though I need a push. 

Today I woke up feeling a bit melancholy wondering if I should have taken the blue pill, played the game like most do? It’s an odd feeling. I remember what it was like playing the game years ago. The wife, the house, the dog. I can’t say it was a bad life. I was happy a lot of the time. I have close friends that are content with this type of life. I honor them for their choice. I’ve seen their kids grow up, I see them growing older together. Their peaceful existence perils my chaotic one. I feel as if they are shaking their heads wondering when I’m just going to finally settle down.

Where are you in your life? Do you feel like you’ve made choices that you might regret? If so… what are you willing to do to change that?

My opening theme here; Wherever you go. There you are, is asking us If we are running away from a side of ourselves that we don’t like, it won’t matter. We will still be there. You may mask it with different hats but the feeling that you carry inside will be wearing the same hat as when you started this journey.

Try on new hats when you feel a need to change, and at the same time ask yourself if you are running away from something. If you are not, then by all means try on that new hat. If it fits, wear it.

The Ten of Cups

Today’s card is the 10 of Cups. Satiety.

I am satisfied.
.
Think of your life right now as a pie chart. Take each slice and label it; Relationship with yourself, Relationship with your family, Relationship with your friends, Relationship with your money, Relationship with your health, and Relationship with God/Higher Self/Spirit/Earth.
.
Take these 6 areas and fill each one on a scale from 1 to 10. Now step back and look at the graph. As a whole are all of the bars even all the way around? If they are you are a very balanced soul. If they are not, like most of us, take the one that is the lowest and write down things you can do to bring that up to the level of the highest one. You can do this by looking at the highest one and ask yourself what you do to make that one at that level. Let’s take money. Let’s say that is the highest one. Do you work hard for your money? What aspects of this can you incorporate into the lowest bar on the pie chart?
.
Today, I want you to grab a pencil and eraser and fill in this chart. I want you to focus on these differences and see if you can even out all of these areas. Take this as a side project for the next couple weeks, month, or even year. Break it up into different categories where you feel you need to concentrate.
.
Your real work begins when you recognize what needs to be focused on instead of ignoring it. They don’t go away, they linger around until you finally do the work.

Queen of Swords

Today’s card is the Queen of Swords. She is very perceptive. She knows all and sees all. This is both a blessing and a curse. Knowing all and seeing all with the ego creates someone who could fall into the trap of having to be ‘right’, and I’ve told you what I feel about right and wrong… it’s a very grey area.
.
On the positive side, this person can see things and not get emotionally tied or feel that they need to correct things outside of themselves. Guiding others might be a good way to go though. Someone in this position might make a great arbiter.
.
Today, notice where you become emotionally invested, especially if it’s to your detriment. We have a tendency to put our foot in our mouths and instead of apologizing we bury the shoe even further [up our ass] just to save our foolish pride.
.
It’s ok to make mistakes. We all do it. Just be more aware of when you do it and learn from it. Like I said the other day, it’s called a spiritual practice for a reason.

The Ten of Swords

Today’s card is the 10 of Swords. I find it slightly humorous that I would pick the card that signifies ruin while walking amongst actual ruins.
.
There are no coincidences. These ruins that I stand upon were put up to create control and fear. To what avail? Those that constructed it are now long gone. No longer do we sense that fear or anger. Now we look back with wonder. We see the beauty in these ruins.
.
Yesterday we talked about water flowing though the cup, today we are looking at the potential effects of not allowing that flow. This card signifies the end of the Swords suit. You’ve heard the saying, ‘Live by the sword, die by the sword’?
.
Think of the Swords as your mental chatter, the power of our intellect. What you create today will have an impact on you tomorrow so it is imperative to look at each negative thought and pick it apart. Put it under a microscope to find where that thought originated.
.
It is a catch 22. If you think negatively you will experience negative things, but if you think positive and negative things happen then you’ll be thrust into thinking negatively. Shit. We’re fucked then?
.
No. Looking at life through rose colored glasses is not a Pollyanna way of living. There is scientific proof that thinking positive changes your outlook on life, and when you have a positive outlook on life those around you will start acting the same way, etc., etc.
.
Today, when you find yourself thinking anything negative, whatever it may be, however small or insignificant you might think it is… stop yourself. Reverse that thought to something positive. If you can, write it down for later where you can pick it apart to find out why you went there.

Ace of Cups

Today’s card is the Ace of Cups. I can think of no better card to pop out than this one today.
.
I am on the magical isle of Anglesey or Ynys Mon, in North Wales. Some argue that this in fact, Avalon from Arthurian lore, but it is mostly known as the last known civilization of the Druids. This is also a major energy area with so many ley lines I have the energy of a 5 yr old.
.
Moving on from the historical value, let’s look at the Ace of Cups and it’s significance.
.
Sticking with the above Arthurian reference, the cup can be considered the holy grail. The womb, the seed of thought. I don’t believe there was ever a physical holy grail. I believe it to have been an idea.
.
Water flows into a cup and out of a cup. Consider water our emotions and the cup, us. If we allow our emotions to just flow through us without setting up mental dams, a calm comes over us. Our thoughts are clear, our actions aren’t based on emotions, but on insight. .
I do this a lot (the erratic emotions). There is something within me that I try to harness, or control even though I know and have all of the tools to cope with such things. It gets frustrating. It’s a daily reminder to practice, practice, practice.
.
It would be awesome to be all zen and shit through any rough patch but the truth of the matter is, until we allow things to flow through our lives we will battle these mental demons.
.
So today do this with me. Every time your mind tries to control a thought, breathe deep and say ‘Allow’ as you breathe out. Allow these emotions to flow through you. Do your best not to attach to an outcome. Allow yourself to let go of all thoughts of control or what these need to look like.
.
As Bruce Lee once said; ‘Be water my friend.’

The Emperor

Today’s card is The Emperor. He is the ruler of his domain.
.
If you pull this card today it is telling you to rely and trust your inner strength. Be fair but stern with those around you. The best rulers are the ones that are loved by their kingdom, not feared.
.
Years ago while going through Summit Education in South Florida, I went down the rabbit hole, so to speak. When we learn more about ourselves it’s almost impossible to be ignorant of your actions or others around you. With every step I take, with every fall I make, that seed is still there. .
When you are living your truth you are constantly growing and changing. It makes it difficult for those around you because they feel like they are encountering a new person. It’s true. They are. I am no more the same as I was last week as I was when I was 10. The growing and learning never stops. That is not to say that I haven’t been stuck for periods of time, I most definitely have. So when these people that got to know you in your period of stagnation, of course they are going to freak out when your actions are different than what they are used to. .
This is where the Emperor steps in. The strength of this Emperor is reminding you that when these people around you who can’t understand you anymore: You changing does not equate you being wrong. Don’t fall into that trap. You are not wrong. .
At the end of the day you are going to have to face yourself in the mirror. Are you going to see someone who has compromised themselves for others? Or are you going to see someone who grows with and amongst others?
.
Live your truth with compassion and understanding and your life will forever be blessed.

The Six of Swords

Today’s card is the Six of Swords. It’s about moving forward and completely letting go of the past. Of course, this comes with growing pains. I will be the first person to tell you to let go of your past, but I will also be the first person to tell you that it takes a little time. We have to go through the stages of grief before we can truly let go. We are going to feel emotions as they surface and we need to truly ‘feel’ them. You’re going to be angry, sad, depressed, happy, despondent… you need to feel these things because if you just hide them away in a closet they are bound to resurface at some other point in our lives.
.
I am not over here in England to avoid the pains of a past relationship. I am here to write music, reflect, and go through these feelings. I recommend anybody to get away and change your environment to do exactly this. Eventually it will be old news.
.
One other thing that we have to do is to look at the parts of our past where we have grown. Acknowledge them. Honor yourself and those that were part of that journey because everything happens for a reason. Everything. Seriously… everything.
.
This morning there was an Admiral Butterfly on the windowsill. In certain cultures it signifies transformation and resurrection. A perfect reminder for today.
.
Today, honor your transformation and send a blessing to those that can’t or aren’t ready for your transformation. Do your best to be an example to them. Don’t sugarcoat how you are feeling. Let it out and let it go.
